Our hard work is paying off.

For more than a year and a half Friends of Metro Theater has worked tirelessly to bring awareness and focus to our beloved Metro’s plight. Friends of Metro Theater’s goals for a theater or performing arts space are finally coming to fruition with the signing of a lease by Tim League, founder of Alamo Drafthouse Cinema for a higher end Alamo with multiple movie screens, seating for 200 and more sophisticated food fare.

We have wanted it to re-open and have been in frequent contact with Metro owner, Albert Bialek. Our captivating awareness campaign Metro Dreams with beautiful photographic portraits and associated dreams for the space by neighborhood residents garnered the attention of hundreds and hundreds of folks from the hood who care deeply for our. Our organization was featured on NY 1. The powerful video created by Friends of Metro Theater demanding that Metro Re-Store, Re-vitalize and Re-Open, the booth at the Broadway Street Harvest Festival in October, 2021, and our social media campaign as well as the many political and community conversations our members have had and been a part have all contributed to this exciting development.
